Ameris Bank Wraps Up a Successful 11th Annual Helping Fight Hunger Initiative
Nov 5, 2020

This year, more than 125 food banks throughout 104 communities in the Southeast benefited from our 11th annual Helping Fight Hunger initiative. Hunger and food insecurities are serious problems affecting millions of Americans each year, and these issues have been heightened by the current pandemic, as food insecurity is up by 60%, according to Feeding America.

Amid lobby closures, social distancing requirements and other COVID-19 precautions, our employees knew that this year our efforts were needed more than ever. It was an honor to help in the fight against hunger throughout our footprint, especially during a time when our communities, customers and employees are all affected by these unprecedented times in different ways. We are pleased to have collected over 198,000 nonperishable food items and over $20,000 bank wide, with locations such as Beaufort, SC; Tifton Old Ocilla Road, GA; and Douglas West, GA, collecting over 23,000 items each. All items and monetary donations collected will be donated to local food banks.

“We are committed to supporting our customers and communities always. Even though facilitating Helping Fight Hunger this year was a challenge due to COVID-19 precautionary measures, I am proud of our efforts and our ability to still collect a considerable number of items,” said Ameris Bank CEO Palmer Proctor. “We appreciate all Ameris teammates, customers and communities joining together to help us as we continue to fight hunger.”

Since the inception of Ameris Bank’s Helping Fight Hunger initiative in 2010, we have made a significant impact in the fight against hunger, collecting over 9 million food items. Additionally, more than $900,000 has been donated to partner food bank organizations throughout the communities we serve.

Ameris Bank strongly believes in being active participants in our communities and in the power of giving back. For more information about our Helping Fight Hunger initiative, visit amerisbank.com/HelpFightHunger.
